What epidemic? A 2017 survey of 4,000 UK adults by Axa Insurance found that 80% felt significant levels of stress. Another recent survey of 4,200 adults for Aviva Insurance found two thirds suffering from stress. Almost the same number suffered from at least mild depression. Things don’t look much better in the USA with widespread anxiety about the future: American Psychological Association report, November 2017: http://www.apa.org/news/press/releases/2017/11/lowest-point.aspx
Obviously stress can be positive — a temporary, natural response to situations that require us to be focused, determined and energetic. Whereas negative stress is usually associated with:
- A major life shock
- A chronic state of anxiety and negative emotions which we feel we have limited control over
- The state common in today’s world where our central nervous system is constantly agitated (usually due to work, information overload, social media and our “always-on”, always-connected culture).
Chronic stress is costly
Many research studies have linked stress with chronic diseases that affect a huge part of the population. No one is saying it’s the only cause, but stress is clearly a major factor. According to the Mayo Clinic in the USA, one of the world’s most respected medical institutions:
” Chronic stress can wreak havoc on your mind and body. The long-term activation of the stress-response system — and the subsequent overexposure to cortisol and other stress hormones — can disrupt all your body’s processes. This puts you at increased risk of numerous health problems, including Anxiety, Depression, Digestive Problems, Headaches, Heart Disease, Sleep Problems, Weight Gain, and Memory and Concentration Impairment. ”
How a PEMF mat can help…
It’s gratifying to hear our clients reporting less stress, anxiety and panic attacks, better sleep and a sense of well being. So what’s happening?
First a little biology. Chemical messengers called endorphins are our natural painkillers and stress relievers. They have receptors on the membranes of every cell in our bodies. They can produce euphoria, appetite reduction, release of sex hormones and a stronger immune system. The state of the cell membranes is critically important to these processes and to the action of other anti-stress neurotransmitters like acetylcholine and serotonin.
Chronic stress is often a key factor in depression, so it’s worth bearing in mind that clinical depression is one of the specific FDA-approved uses for PEMF therapy.
Another key aspect of stress is disruption of sleep patterns. Embedding frequencies in the PEMF field, especially the Schumann Resonances and circadian-based brainwave frequencies, has been used for decades to re-tune these rhythms.
And a further factor for many people is needing the motivation and energy to break out of the stressful rut that they’re trapped in. Fatigue and stress often lead to too much food and alcohol. These cause even worse sleep (which often causes a hormone imbalance that leads to more over-eating), and further fatigue and irritability. Which produce even more stress.
On top of better sleep and an improved metabolism, a common benefit of using a PEMF mat is more energy. In addition to greater productivity. this becomes especially useful if it helps the person to start exercising again, leading towards a positive, life-changing cycle.
…and why the Life Mat Company is especially effective in this area
Of all the PEMF mat systems we’ve explored, our main one, the iMRS, meets all these criteria and seems especially adept at handling stress across a broad range of individuals (while some other systems can make things worse!) The iMRS also has the option of two connected accessories that totally focus on reducing stress. More information about this unique PEMF mat can be found on the iMRS page.
In addition, we have considerable experience in the general field of stress reduction and sleep management. This spans various types of meditation and cognitive techniques, inter-personal communications, remedies for “electro-smog” and other innovative technologies with powerful effects. Our Life Mat Company product training is already extensive, so we won’t bombard you with too much information. But if you want to tap into this pool of knowledge, we’re more than happy to help.
Finally a word of caution: Almost any PEMF mat will re-energise the cell membranes in one way or another. However, PEMF can also aggravate stress in some people if it’s the wrong type for that person or if it’s used in the wrong way. Just make sure you’re advised by a trained PEMF therapist with many years of experience.
